Vibe Over Value: Why Tamil Nadu’s Choice Could Bring Hard Times
Tamil Nadu just elected an actor with no political experience as its leader. Many people voted for Vijay and his party TVK because they wanted change. They liked his style, his energy, and the promises of free money and gifts. But was this a wise decision? Let’s look at the real picture.
Swayed by Emotions, Not Questions
A lot of voters, especially young people, supported him based on feelings and excitement rather than clear answers. They didn’t ask tough questions like: How will you actually run the state? What is your plan to fix problems? Instead, they trusted the vibe. But vibe is not the same as value. Vibe can win votes, but value is what improves people’s lives.
Big Promises Mean Bigger Debt
Tamil Nadu’s debt is already very high — around 9.5 lakh crore rupees. The new government’s promises of freebies like monthly cash to women, free gas cylinders, gold for weddings, and more will cost a huge amount. Without new income, this debt could grow much bigger. More debt means the government will have to pay heavy interest every year, leaving less money for roads, hospitals, and schools.
Where Will Jobs Come From?
Big companies are cutting jobs, not creating them. Cognizant is planning to lay off up to 15,000 people, mostly in India. Amazon has cut around 30,000 corporate jobs recently. In this tough situation, how will an inexperienced leader create new jobs for our youth? Companies invest only where they see good governance, low corruption, and clear policies. Without a solid plan, attracting big investments will be difficult.
How Will Petrol Prices Come Down?
Reducing petrol and diesel prices sounds good, but the government doesn’t control global oil prices. Cutting taxes on fuel means even less money in the state’s pocket. How will they balance this without making the debt situation worse? No clear roadmap has been shared yet.
Experience Matters More Than Style
Yes, many old parties are corrupt — that’s true. But running a state is not like acting in movies. It needs real experience in administration, finance, and dealing with the central government. Comparing Vijay to Rahul Gandhi, both are young, good-looking, and have style. They speak well and have that “vibe.” But style alone cannot solve problems like unemployment, rising prices, and growing debt. You need proven ability.
Who Supported This Change?
Many who joined TVK or supported this shift are young Gen Z people who spend a lot of time on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. They are energetic but often frustrated because of lack of jobs. When people are not busy building their careers, they get easily attracted to emotional appeals. If they had stable jobs and busy lives, maybe they would have asked more practical questions.
The Tough Road Ahead
The coming years are going to be very difficult for Tamil Nadu. Paying back loans, managing freebie schemes, creating real jobs, and keeping the economy strong will not be easy without experience and a concrete plan.
People of Tamil Nadu need to wake up now. Emotions have their place, but governing a state needs clear thinking. It’s time to demand real answers, not just good vibes. The pains of bad decisions — higher taxes later, fewer facilities, and struggling economy — will be felt by all of us, especially our children.
Let’s hope the new leaders prove everyone wrong and deliver. But hope is not a plan. Critical thinking is what we need now.
